Iran to buy Su-35 fighters from Russia

Iran's UN mission has announced the purchase of Russian Su-35 fighter jets. According to the statement, Tehran has finalised the contract to buy the planes from Russia. The Iranian newspaper IRIB announced the news.

Iranian media claim that the Russian fighter "is one of the most powerful fourth or more generation fighters in the world".

How many planes Iran will receive has not been disclosed. Nothing is known about the cost of the contract either.

As the Western media point out, if Iran receives the Su-35s, this could seriously upset the regional balance of power, which would have far-reaching consequences for the entire region.

According to the claimed characteristics of the aircraft, it can track targets at a distance of 300 km and engage up to eight targets simultaneously.

Over the past year, Iran has expanded its relations with Russia in various areas, including the military. Kyiv accuses Tehran of supplying Russia with combat drones. The U.S. has repeatedly expressed concern about the expansion of military cooperation between Iran and Russia.
