Kellogg: Ukraine's accession to NATO is out of the question

The issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO is not under discussion. This was stated by the US president's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, in an interview with Fox News on 19 April.

We have made it very clear: NATO is off the table. Ukraine will not become part of NATO. This idea is not new. We have been talking about it since 2008," the politician said.

He recalled that 17 years ago, the US ambassador to Russia, William Burns, told Condoleezza Rice, then US Secretary of State, that this was an unattainable goal.

Trump himself has repeatedly stated that Ukraine will never join NATO. In his opinion, it was the promise of the former head of the White House Joe Biden to provide Kiev with guarantees of membership in the Alliance that became one of the reasons for Russian aggression.

On the eve of the Bloomberg edition, citing sources, wrote that the United States is ready to recognise Russia's control over Crimea as part of a broader peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev. Notably, the information about this came after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio - and then Donald Trump himself - made it clear that the US could withdraw from negotiations to end the war "if either side complicates the process".

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the exclusion of the issue of Ukraine's NATO membership from the negotiation process was a big gift for Russia.
