After Russia's massive overnight strike on Kiev, the number of casualties has risen to 56 people, there are dead. Destructions and fires have been recorded in all districts of the capital and in Kiev Region.



On the night of 24 May, Russia launched one of the largest strikes on Kyiv in recent times, attacking the capital with ballistic missiles and attack drones. The aftermath was recorded in all districts of the city: residential buildings, schools, dormitories, business centres, commercial facilities and warehouses were burning. As of 9:30 it is already known about 56 victims, among them children, and the number of victims continues to grow. This was reported by the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko.

It was a terrible night for Kiev... Now rescuers are putting out fires, removing rubble. Medics are providing assistance to the victims," Klitschko said.

According to updated data:

  • 56 people wereinjured in Kiev;

  • 30 injured are in hospitals, among them two children;

  • earlier it was reported about three seriously injured;

  • two people have been confirmed dead in the capital.

Separately, tragic consequences were also recorded in the Kiev region. Head of Kyiv OVA Mykola Kalashnik reported two dead men in Buchanskiy and Obukhovskiy districts. The number of injured in the region rose to 9 people, among them - a girl under one year old. The largest number of injured was recorded in Fastovskyi district.

The whole of Kiev was under the attack

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, rescuers received calls to more than 40 locations in all districts of the capital. The most serious destructions:

Shevchenko district

  • the entrance of a five-storey building was destroyed;

  • the fire covered the floors from the first to the fifth;

  • a school was damaged; a 300 square metre fire broke out;

  • a business centre was hit;

  • a market area caught fire.

Lukyanivka

  • kvadrat shopping mall was completely destroyed;

  • a large-scale fire destroyed most of Lukyanivka market;

  • lukyanivska metro station was damaged, the entrance was partially destroyed;

  • the work of some exits of Khreshchatyk station was temporarily restricted.

Darnitsky district

  • the roof of a hostel with an area of about 150 square metres caught fire;

  • residents were evacuated.

Desnyansky district

  • hits were recorded in a shopping centre and a supermarket;

  • garage boxes were on fire.

Obolonsky district

  • a fire broke out in a residential building;

  • a high-rise building was on fire;

  • a construction hypermarket was damaged.

Pecherskiy district

  • fire broke out on the 13th floor of a new building;

  • a shed next to a residential complex caught fire.

Damage was also recorded in Solomenskyi, Svyatoshynskyi and Dniprovskyi districts.

The attack also affected the Kiev region

Destruction and fires occurred in:

  • Vyshgorod - hit a multi-storey building;

  • Vyshnevyi - a multi-storey building was damaged;

  • Bilohorodka - a warehouse was destroyed;

  • Kryukivschyna - a residential building was damaged;

  • Gorenka - a logistics centre was damaged;

  • Vite-Pochtova - private houses were on fire;

  • Novoye and Tarasivka - residential buildings were destroyed.

In Bila Tserkva garages were on fire, in Boryspil the building of a private sauna was damaged.

Rescuers continue to remove debris and eliminate fires. The number of victims may increase, as the work on the sites of impacts is not yet completed.

The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned, citing data from partners, that Russia might be preparing a new ballistic missile strike and urged Ukrainians not to ignore air alerts.
